We have a clear and concise program that displays all calculations so that the seller can see the exact amount we can offer for their precious metals. We do not attempt to pressure our clients to sell, but in fact do our best to educate our clients on the value of their items so they can see why we offer what we do.

How is the Purity of Gold Measured?

Karat Grade

For gold, karat grade is used to express the proportion of gold in an alloy. Fine gold (99.9% pure) is 24 karat. The proportions in other karats are listed in the table below.

All jewelry is required by law to be hallmarked. Jewelry made in North America is marked with the karat grade (10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, 24K), and jewelry made in Italy is marked with a hallmark such as (417, 583, 750, 917, 999). So if your jewelry does not have a karat grade stamped on it, check for a 3-digit hallmark.
